Home For the Holidays - Christmas House Tour
There is no better place than home for the holidays!
Merry almost Christmas friends! I mean it’s 25 days away but who’s counting? I may have decorated a week or two early this year but Christmas always puts me in such a good mood! Celebrating Christmas with kids makes my heart want to burst. Seeing the joy in their eyes when we speak about Santa, decorate the tree or even bake cookies makes me sooo happy! Liam is a bit young and has made numerous attempts of bringing down our 9.5 foot tree but Ethan has been pretty adamant about stopping him, haha!
I wanted to give a little tour of our home last year but I was in the thick of figuring out how to Mother a toddler and a newborn so it seems a little blurry when I look back. This year though, I have a good handle on things (or at least I think I do) so I was able to write this blog post to show you our space and give you some ideas on how to decorate your home with affordable finds!
We decorated early this year because everyone needs some extra cheer! The boys LOVE Christmas music and we have been listening to our favorite radio station 104.3 The Breeze who is playing all the Christmas Jams 24/7! I will be on air TODAY chatting with them about tips to decorate your home for the holidays as well as new trends for Christmas home decor!
If you follow me on Instagram (you should, it’s fun over there!), I shared a pretty lengthy story tour of our home and where we bought the majority of our Christmas decorations. Below you will find a mix of traditional and modern decorations that range from affordable prices to a few more expensive pieces.
Christmas decorations shouldn’t cost you a ton of money. I mean…they can, and there are endless amounts of really expensive pieces out there, but your home can still look festive without you breaking the bank!
The last two years I had all.things.plaid in our home and this year I went for more of a white Christmas / neutral look. I mixed some bronze and copper hues with a tiny bit of gold!
Living Room:
This is where we keep this beautiful 9.5 foot flocked tree. I was eyeing this tree for two years and my hubby finally ordered it for me! He knew I wasn’t going to buy it for the $500 price tag so he went ahead and took matters into his own hands. I LOVE it and could stare at it all day. It was from Home Depot and fun fact - > it dropped down in price to $75 after boxing day! It sold out quickly but if you are looking to purchase a new tree for next year, wait until boxing day! This one will not disappoint. Flocked trees are already so jazzed up that you don’t need to add a lot of ornaments to them!
Our ornaments are a mix of traditional and modern. These beautiful feathers are my favorite! They add a nice modern touch alongside the textured traditional ornaments which are from The Bay.
Storage boxes: These were on clearance at Homesense for $4 each from $30! Now that is a steal! I love these little storage boxes because they hold all the ornaments in them!
Faux present boxes: These are from Canadian Tire and they sell out every year super early as they go on sale for about $50. You can use them indoor or outdoor and they light up!
Deer: These cute little Deer’s are from Superstore and I see them there every year. They were on sale for $6 each. They have multiple colors and add a fun touch to your décor. I matched it with an aluminum tree.
Red Trees: I always get asked about these and they are from Homesense as well! Surprised? I think not😉 I bought them two years ago. We placed them on our landing this year as the boys like to sit there and read books from time to time.
Stockings and stocking holders: All of these are from Walmart! I was surprised but Walmart has some really nice Christmas décor at such great prices. Check them out for sure for some more budget friendly buys! I know not everyone can afford to support local businesses and pricing but if you can, I would urge you to check them out first! I am looking for white stockings for next year!
The grey and white trees are so pretty and they add a nice modern touch. The wooden deer are also understated but modern and I love that.
I always get asked about these white wreaths that are on our French doors and they are from Walmart Canada! I love how pretty and chic they look!
Dinning Room:
I love simplicity and we have a grand island and our kitchen boasts of white hues. I wanted to play on that and keep things simply so added this bare gold tree with glass vases filled with textured ornaments. I love the look of it!
The island bar stools are also lightly decorated with neutral colored bows attached to the back of them and I love how simple yet elegant they look!
Now on to our bedrooms…….
This is the first year that I decorated our bedroom and I don’t know why I hadn’t before. I LOVE how homey and Christmasy it feels!
Ethan Room:
Ethan is SO into Christmas this year and being 4 years old, he asks ALL the questions about Santa! This makes my heart so happy.
This plaid throw was an after season buy. The colorful garland was care of Signed by Santa and Ethan is soo in love with it! The fabric advent calendar is from Canadian Tire and was under $25! I also bought him these super cute sheets from Homesense. The little snow globes and other little Christmas trinkets are from the Dollarstore and Ethan picked them out himself! I mean some of the stuff he picked out was tacky BUT he liked it so I guess it’s okay!
Master Bedroom:
This red throw and sheets are from Marshalls and I bought these at the end of season last year. The smaller wreaths on the wall are from Dollarama and were only $4. I’ve had these for 3 years and they hold up so well. This bed is one I get asked about a ton and it’s from Island Home Furniture in Nanaimo, BC.
Front Porch:
I LOVE decorating my front porch for all seasons! I find it so inviting and not that anyone is coming over right now due to covid but it just feels so nice to come home too. This wreath is one that I have hung for the past 2 years and it’s such a pretty one from Michaels. The two taller trees I bought this year from Bed Bath and Beyond. I flocked them a little myself to match the wreath! (DIY queen over here, haha) I mean the spray came in a can so pat on my back for trying something different out! 😉
In summary, below are some tips for decorating your home without being overwhelmed:
Color scheme: Pick a color scheme and stick to it!
Shop the sales: Seriously…this is a big one. I don’t like buying things regular price. Something about it bothers me because I know it’ll be on sale soon so I wait for it. There are a ton of good sales going on right now and hopefully you shopped the Black Friday sales from a few days ago because some of the big box retailers had their Christmas Décor up to 60% off!
Dollar Store finds: I have found the nicest little trinkets from the Dollarstore. I couldn’t believe how many cute things they had for Christmas all under $4. These wreaths that you see above my bed were only 4$ each and they look so good!
Trees: If you can, try to get a flocked tree. Since it’s already dressed up, you don’t need to buy 3 big boxes of ornaments, so you save money there!
End of Season sales: Lastly, if you can wait until end of season to purchase your bigger items, (trees, wreaths etc), you will save up to 80%.
Just remember that this is supposed to be fun and although this Christmas looks different and we won’t be having any big gatherings, it’s fun to change your home up a bit!
